Nar Phu escape trek is a exclusive trek between Annapurna and Manaslu. This lost valley trail was off limit for the trekker till 2002. Hardly some trekkers have been to this amazing destination. Despite its proximity to Annapurna Circuit Trek, this place is not well developed as it is to be. Nar and Phu are the main hidden villages lies at the border near to Tibet. During winter, these villages are completely isolated as they are above the tree line. The local people move down to the village near Manang and other places. The people of this region herd yak and sell their meat, wool and hides with other village. Lately, some people have opened tea house and started their business. The yak, mule or human carry goods to these village as there is no road accessibility. The best time to visit this destination is during April – June and September – November.

3 Hours Before Flight Time
The Nar Phu trek starts climbing through narrow trail above the raging Nar khola (river). The trail passes through lush coniferous forests. On the way, you can see beautiful cascading waterfalls and barren ridges. There is a high pasture grounds with amazing landscape. There is a high chance of seeing Himalayan Thar and Blue sheep during trek. Get some snaps and create beautiful moments.
While entering the border of Nepal, you see the Terai Plain and everlasting green hills. The Himalayas at the horizon smile over your arrival in Nepal. After custom clearance, proceed toward arrival terminal (gate). Our company’s representative receives you and transfer to hotel as assigned.

The exploration of Kathmandu valley starts after taking breakfast. You will visit some of the ancient UNESCO heritage which is important destination. Our tour guide will take you to Pashupatinath Temple and its surrounding to explore. This temple is the holiest destination on Earth for Hindu. The temple’s architecture is a masterpiece to behold. After this, you will visit Boudhanath Stupa which is the largest stupa in Nepal. After exploration, visit to Swoyambhunath Stupa, the monkey temple of Nepal. These two stupas are pious destination for Buddhist. The vibes you get from these places is unworldly and divine. As the time goes by, you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, one of the oldest squares in the valley. From here, we can walk up to Thamel market if we have some shopping left to do for trekking.

After having breakfast, we drive to Besi Sahar. The drive to Besi Sahar is like escaping from concrete jungle Kathmandu. You can see beautiful mountainscape and mountain villages. The Trishuli River and Marshyangdi River flow side by side to the highway. The mountain villages and small locale market on the way excites your journey to Besi Sahar. From Besi Sahar, we drive to Syange on bumpy road by local transportation.

The trek starts with the slow descend toward the river. The trail continues within dense forest of Rhododendron and Juniper. We reach to Chamje. Chamje is a beautiful village watched over by Annapurna Ranges. From Chamje, we cross the suspension bridge. By following the rocky and narrow trail, we reach to Tal village. There is a beautiful waterfall that captivate the every traveller’s heart. Continue the trek to Koto and reach Dharapani after couple of hours.

After breakfast, we take slow and steady walk to Bagarchhap, a Buddhist village. There is a white washed monastery to visit. The trek continues to Danakyu which is a hour walk. From Danakyu (apple farm), the trek steeply ascends to Timang, the good spot to enjoy the view of Peak 29 and Mt Manaslu. We leave those beautiful scenarios and we trek to Kota via Latamarga through pine forest. En route you will have occasional view of Annapurna II. Koto is a entry checkpost for the trek. We get register before continuing trek our trek further.

Today, we leave behind the Annapurna Circuit trail and split the journey. The journey split to narrow and ridged line trail. We cross the raging river through shakey bridge. We enter the forests and continue the journey to Chhomchu. We have our Lunch at Chhomchu (Chhechhe). The easy trail continues along the bank of the river. The uphill trek starts from Dharmasala until we reach Meta. Meta used to be a temporary settlement and grassland area. Now, it is a small village to accommodate the travellers.

The early morning view from Meta is very beautiful. After breakfast, our journey starts to Phu (Phoo) village. After 30 minutes’ walk, we will reach Nar Phu crossroad. The trail continues for Phu village. We have our Lunch at Chyakhu. The Chyakhu is high pasture ground between tall barren ridges and Glaciers River. It is really amazing and worth spending some of our time for relaxation. The trail from Kyang is a bit difficult. We pass through crumbled entrance of Phu village.

On this day, we trek to Uibi. It is a temporary settlement and pasture ground of Phu people. The local people gather their cattle and crops at this place. The plain green meadows and the view from the Uibi is the best thing you could see today.
The history, culture, rites and rituals are worth exploring. During Tibet and China war, Khampas fled from Tibet and came to Nepal. They robbed the local village, killed animals and sustained their living. Later, Phu people resided in the present location of Phoo village. There is a ruin of building at the top of the village as a watch tower. As you keep on exploring the village, you will find the Tibetan style houses made of stone and mud. The houses adorned with prayer flags and stacks of firewood are beautiful. The people of Phu forbade to take tobacco or cigarette to anyone. The one to breach rule, they have to pay Rs 100,000.
There is a high possibility of seeing blue sheep (naur). As the night approach, the flocks of blue sheep come near the village area. They spend their night to be safe from snow leopard.

Visit local monastery, Tashi Lakang Gumba early in the moring. After visit, we have our breakfast. We continue journey further. We retrace the same route to Chyaku, the crossroad of Nar and Phu village. We go toward Nar Phedi. At Nar Phedi, there is a monastery which offers accommodation for the guests. The rooms at the monastery are clean and the nuns are very welcoming. At the evening, you can take part in Puja too.

The trek from Nar Phedi to Nar village is straight uphill and winding walk. As we ascend, we can see Pisang Peak along with other peaks. On the way, there is an octagonal chorten at the top the hill. As you reach near the Nar, the twisting trail leads to the village resting against the hillside. The terrace of barely field is beautiful is observe as they sway with the wind. After lunch, we explore the village. You will find the village livelier and relatively friendly than Phu.

Today, we start our trek early in the morning after breakfast. This trek gonna be the longest journey throughout the trek. The highest elevation Kang la Pass (5,332m) will be the toughest hike. It gonna take 6 hours to ascend Kang La pass and 3 hours to (steep) descend from there and reach Ngawal. The view from the top is magnificent; you can see the series of Annapurna II, Tilicho peak, Gangapurna and the valley below.

The trek from Ngawal to Pisang is easy and short. The trail is broader and comfortable to walk. The surrounding greenery will definitely rejuvenate us to continue trail. From Pisang, we drive 4WD to reach Besisahar. The off-road drive is going to be challenging one.
